My Fellow colleagues💗,

Tired of me yet? LOL. No worries because we are almost at the end of this course. In the meantime, let me remind us of our session this week. The Writing traits (cont'd). Mrs Lazarus spent a significant amount of time on this topic, did she not? As if she was reading our minds, she explained her reason why. We are presently critiquing a child's piece and we will need to be familiar with the writing traits in order to ace that piece.

check out this poster, there are many more similar ones on the internet that we can use in our classrooms.

In addition to the writing traits, I loved the idea of Mrs. Lazarus having a class discussion/ critique of a sample. Then we paired with our assignment partner to discuss another one. I must say I embraced this activity because my partner and I were able to share many ideas together. What I liked most about this, is that my partner could have pointed out some strengths or weaknesses from the passage that I could not.

This activity is one I usually incorporate in my classroom, and upon my return there, it is my desired hope to allow my students to work together so that they can benefit from each other as well. Remember colleagues, writing is never a one-shot deal. One takeaway point from this week is to always be patient with your students, and give them time to build on their ideas and other areas of the writing traits. Finally, when something is not working, take them back to the drawing board where they can be guided properly in ensuring they master the skills needed when applying the writing traits.

To wrap up, I must commend our lecturer, Mrs Lazarus, for her unwavering support throughout this course. It is my desire to utilize all that I have learned back in my classroom. Take care my peeps, and do not be strangers. Our time here has expired, but we always have WhatsApp😁.

  1. I see we both got hooked with the same poster, t has helped me a lot in remembering the different writing traits as I wrote my own pieces and analyzed the student's work. Also, i did mention in my blog how Mrs. L used a lot of group work, and it was honestly refreshing and NECESSARY because if I do recall we both were placed together in a group and it worked out pretty well for us. Talk soon on WHATSAPP LOL.

  2. Hi Narlyn,
I am happy to know that you will practice what you learned. I believe that students need lots of practice and guidelines when they are writing especially when generating ideas and giving supporting details. I just understand the importance of ideas and supporting details. I will try different strategies to help them with ideas and support details because I really want my students to be successful, effective writers.
