My first week's Blog

 Hey Friends,

Let us take a sneak peek into my first week of LIT 102 👀. As usual, I was awwwwed by the way Mrs. Lazarus introduced her lesson. Were you guys fascinated as well? I believe The All About book is the topic that caught my attention the most. As stated by Mrs. Lazarus, this is a book created by young students getting them to write. It is about 4-5 pages long and contains information on the chosen topic. As Mrs. Lazarus explained, my interest grew. I understood that, as teachers, we can make it appropriate for grade level. What I really embrace is the notion that I can use the All About book in not just my Language lessons, but any other subject area where it is applicable. 


Having been introduced to this book created a bitter-sweet feeling inside of me. Although I am very much open to the idea of introducing it to my students, I am presently not in the classroom right now. Nevertheless, when I do go back to my classroom, the All About book will surely be used.  

As I reflect, I revisit her steps in creating the book. I was not worried because knowing Mrs. Laz, modeling was definitely to come. Although we made fun by writing silly sentences in our books, I am mindful of the steps, and the values of having my students create their own All About book. Practice Teaching is around the corner. This strategy of writing will definitely be in the collection. knowing how excited I was in creating my All About book, how can I not give my students that same feeling of excitement?

    Hey Narlz! I cannot say I feel your pain because unlike you, I got the opportunity to try this with my students as I am in the classroom. What I can tell you is to prepare for excitement from your students. I think they feel a sense of independence and ownership when they create things on their own and also be mindful of what you ask them to include and how much they write because I know you teach at a lower level. For me, I allowed the students to include a short paragraph because by grade 5 they would have already been exposed to paragraph writing. These books are also an amazing way to maximize participation and learning in your classroom, especially if used in the other subject areas.

    Glad to know your favorite food is chicken and I'll be sure to get you that black doll for your birthday lol. Talk soon, can't wait for your next post.

    Hi Narlyn,
    It was a great lesson indeed. Especially, when the tutor was teaching, she modelled and allowed us to create our own All About book. It was a wonderful feeling to create the book. The steps were easy to follow. I got to use my creativity while completing the book. I cannot wait to try this All About book with my students when I am back into the classroom. I will also use this strategy in Practical Teaching in the next semester.

    Frances I am so happy You are not in the same boat as I am. Looking forward to trying it out for practice teaching though. I will be using all the different skills and strategies Mrs. Laz modelled to us. Look out for me January, I will be soooooooo showing off....lol

    Maurisa, I am glad you agree it was a great lesson. And indeed you are creative, I saw your sample booklet and was like...showofff, while rolling my eyes. LOL. Continue doing great.

 My Fellow colleagues💗,  Tired of me yet? LOL. No worries because we are almost at the end of this course. In the meantime, let me remind us of our session this week. The Writing traits (cont'd). Mrs Lazarus spent a significant amount of time on this topic, did she not? As if she was reading our minds, she explained her reason why. We are presently critiquing a child's piece and we will need to be familiar with the writing traits in order to ace that piece. check out this poster, there are many more similar ones on the internet that we can use in our classrooms.  In addition to the writing traits, I loved the idea of Mrs. Lazarus having a class discussion/ critique of a sample. Then we paired with our assignment partner to discuss another one. I must say I embraced this activity because my partner and I were able to share many ideas together.  Welcome Colleagues 👪,  As I engage you in another session of LIT 102 classes where Mrs. Lazarus held the session on The Writing Process.  I could not help but look back on my life as a primary school student. Maybe teachers back then did not know the meaning of the word process.... sigh.😢Although I was not as fortunate in learning about it then, I am forever grateful for the opportunity to teach it now to my students.   Pre-writing, Drafting, Revising, Proofreading, and Publishing are the steps involved in the writing process. What I love most about this process is that it takes time. Time that can assist students in providing their best work, which most likely may not have been from a one-shot writing.
