Hello Colleagues,
I could not have waited to blog this week because today's Lit 102 session is still quite vivid in my head like fresh squeezed orange juice. Narrative Writing. From today's session, I must say I am full. To be honest, I never really liked Narrative Writing as a student, and I believe I did not like it for the same reason I did not like Mathematics, the teacher.....sigh😔Why could I not have had Mrs. Lazarus teaching me back then? Or if not her, then her twin sister? LOL😆😀 Honestly, I was NOT in the mood for class today, just wanted to hand in the assignment and go home. Now, I have no regrets of having stayed.
Let us walk through today's session again. From what I gathered, The Writing Workshop is one of the most common yet effective teaching strategies that can be used to generate ideas when writing. This includes Teaching time, where the teacher spends time ensuring that the students have enough pre-requisite knowledge needed for writing. Honestly, I love this. I believe when teachers do that, then no child gets left behind. My friends, I say this again. I choose to work smart, not hard. For all the modelling done by Mrs. Laz, I am taking note. My students will not feel the way I felt in school.
And just in case any of you forgot what happened today, let me remind you of some activities to consider on The Writing process.
- Discuss the topic of interest
-Model the process to students
-engage students in completing a map
-allow students to brainstorm ideas
-share with peers to generate ideas for writing
- discuss ideas as a whole class
After today's lesson, I must say I am confident enough to teach my students The Writing Process.
Do you not agree?

I saw this video useful in my classroom, check it out
Hi Narlyn, I am glad that the session left such a positive impression on you. If I must confess, I too feel the same. I can concur that the writing workshop approach indeed fosters a supportive environment where students can develop their ideas collaboratively. Your proactive attitude toward adopting effective teaching strategies will undoubtedly create a more engaging and inclusive classroom experience for your students. I too intend on adopting these strategies in my classroom.
ReplyDeleteI believe so also. Using these effective strategies during instructional time will keep the students engaged in the lesson and learning will take place.
DeleteHey Narlz, I feel you, I too was drained that day but as you said Mrs. Lazarus just knows how to capture us in her lessons. I'm happy that you stayed, and you learned so much from it because I have as well. I know we have our assignment due soon for our narrative piece. How is that going for you and are you using what we learned to help you out?
ReplyDeleteNarrative writing can be tricky for some students. you must ensure that they have a well-detailed plan and stick to the writing process.
Deleteyes ladies, with proper planning and effort, it can be done effectively. Let us continue trying.
